About Keyfluent

A free browser-based touch typing trainer built around one idea: don't let anyone practise the wrong movement quickly.

What it is

Keyfluent is a touch typing course that runs entirely in your browser. It has 48 lessons across 9 stages, moving from the home row anchors through the whole board to capitals, numbers and symbols. Each lesson stays locked until you clear the previous one at its accuracy target — not its speed target. Alongside the path there's an endless generated mode and a custom text mode for practising on your own material.

Why accuracy gating

Most free typing tools measure speed because speed is easy to measure and satisfying to watch go up. The problem is that typing is a motor skill: repetitions of an incorrect finger movement make that movement more automatic, not less. A typist who practises at a pace that produces frequent errors is efficiently training the errors.

Gating on accuracy removes the choice. You cannot skip ahead by typing faster and sloppier, because faster and sloppier doesn't open the next lesson. That constraint is the whole design. The reasoning is set out at length in accuracy vs. speed in typing practice.

Your data

Keyfluent has no accounts and no user database. Lesson progress, statistics and settings live in your browser's local storage and are never sent to a server. You can export everything as a JSON file and import it into another browser or device. Clearing your browser data will erase your progress, so export it if it matters to you. The privacy page has the full detail, including what third-party advertising does and doesn't see.

How it's funded

Keyfluent is free and has no paid tier. Running costs are covered by advertising displayed on the site. Ads are kept out of the typing area itself, because an ad that moves or interrupts while you're mid-drill would defeat the point of the tool. If you'd rather not see ads at all, any standard content blocker works and nothing on the site is gated behind them.
